United Hospital Distinct is pleased to welcome Dr. Rick Foss, General Surgeon, Dr. Steven Curtis, Orthopedist and Dr. Matthew Patterson, Ear, Nose and Throat specialist to our physicians group. Dr. Foss, who joined the UHD staff in April of 2011, brings specialty services and expertise in the area of General Surgery. Dr. Foss received his medical degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine and completed his residency at David Grant USAF (United States Air Force) Medical Center and fellowship at the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services Systems. With more than 30 years of experience, he is board certified in General Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Foss enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, cooking (especially BBQ) and watching hockey. When asked about his choice to come to UHD, he responded, “During my interview, I felt a good connection with the
medical staff and senior leadership. I was impressed with the focus on patient-centered care and UHD’s commitment to expanding local health care access. I believed that the rural setting of UHD and the surrounding communities will allow me the opportunity to return to my general surgical roots and practice the kind of medicine where I not only get to take care of my patients—but also get to know them.”
Dr. Patterson, who joined the UHD staff in July of 2011, brings specialty services and expertise in the areas of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Sleep Medicine. His practice covers areas including nasal disorders, sinus problems, allergies, hearing loss, tonsils, chronic ear infections, thyroid tumors, masses in the head and neck, and voice/vocal chord disorders. Dr. Patterson received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed his residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He also holds a Masters of Healthcare Administration (MHA) from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Business Management. He is board certified in Otolaryngology and Sleep Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy and Sleep Medicine.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Patterson enjoys spending time with his family, biking, and supporting both the International Hearing Foundation and the Healing Hands Foundation, servicing both foundations as a surgical team leader in Senegal, Africa. When asked about his choice to come to UHD, he responded, “During my exposure to UHD, I was really impressed with how caring and genuinely pleasant the environment and the staff were… I think it’s more rewarding to practice in a rural community where there is a tremendous need and demand for health care. To go to a local hospital is a lot easier on families and patients.”
Dr. Curtis, who joined the UHD staff in June of 2011, brings specialty services and expertise in the area of sports medicine, trauma, treatment of the foot and ankle, pediatrics and arthroscopic surgery. Dr. Curtis received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and completed his residency at Ohio State University School of Medicine. With more than 20 years of experience, he is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a member of both the American Orthopedic Food and Ankle Society and the Orthoscopic Association of North America. Dr. Curtis joined the Orthopedic & Fracture Clinic (OFC) in Mankato, MN, in 1991. He provides orthopedic services at United Hospital District as a consulting physician. Outside of medicine, Dr. Curtis enjoys spending time with his family, fly fishing, travel and golf.
