Learn about pregnancy and childbirth with our online childbirth education program.
Our Obstetrics staff, the physicians that provide services to women during pregnancy, labor, childbirth and the time after childbirth into well-baby checkups, has doubled in size to four physicians. We work to ensure that pregnancy culminates in the delivery of a healthy baby, without impairing the health of the mother.

UHD has all of the services that you will need throughout your pregnancy including all prenatal care, lab services, on-site ultrasound and non-stress testing. Experience labor and delivery in our state-of-the-art birthing suites, explore breastfeeding options with our certified lactation consultants and attend our baby care and family planning classes.

Whether you are confirming your pregnancy or looking for ongoing primary care, our obstetric practitioners are there to develop and nurture a relationship with you and your family for generations to come.

Obstetric FAQS

Q: How many babies have been delivered at UHD in the last five years?
A: 278

Q: Can I stay in the same room from labor through delivery?
A: Yes, UHD has state-of-the-art labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum (LDRP) rooms with whirlpool tubs in the bathroom. There are sleeping accommodations for family as well.

Q: Do you provide 24-hour epidurals?
A: Yes, UHD has recently implemented an epidural program directed by our anesthesia department.

Q: What sorts of alternative delivery methods do you provide?
A: At this time we do not offer alternative delivery options.

Q: Do you have ultrasounds?
A: UHD has the only 4D Ultrasound in southern Minnesota.

Q: How current is UHD’s technology?
A: UHD has the GE Fetal Monitoring system, which is the monitoring system of choice. Physicians are able to view the monitor strip of their patients from their office or home. We also have the latest products for infant warming, monitoring and stabilizing.

Q: What happens if my delivery becomes high-risk?
A: UHD has highly trained and competent staff that manages the care until the transfer to a perinatal center is completed. With the emphasis on early recognition and intervention we are committed to providing or arranging timely and appropriate care.

Q: Where is the closest neo-natal unit and how would we get there?
A: The closest neo-natal unit is in Rochester, (Mayo) but all the centers are within similar distance. When an infant needs a transfer the neo-natal team comes here to prepare and attend the transport.

Q: Do you offer vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC’s)?
A: We have the capacity to do VBAC’s but because of the mandated need for high-risk neo-natal support they are done safely only in large birthing centers, which we are not.

Q: When can I come in to tour the facility?
A: We will give tours at your convenience. Just call 507-526-7966 and arrange a time.
