Whether you are experiencing pain from degenerative joint disease or from a ligament torn during a sporting activity, our providers work to return you to the activities you enjoy as soon as possible. At United Hospital District, we routinely perform joint replacements for hips, shoulders and knees as well as treatment for activity-related injuries.

Many procedures are done with an arthroscope, a thin fiber optic scope that the surgeon introduces into the joint area through a small incision. These minimally invasive procedures with small incisions decrease the amount of pain patients experience following surgery, minimize the risk of infection, and frequently allow patients to go home the same day.

If your concerns range from age-related wear and tear to a sports-related injury, you can rest assured that United Hospital District’s team of orthopedic specialists can provide complete orthopedic care for diseases, injuries and conditions involving your bones, joints, spine and muscles.

Arthroscopic Surgery

Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that is used to diagnose and treat problems in the joints. The most common type of arthroscopy is arthroscopic knee surgery. Other common types include shoulder, elbow, wrist, ankle and hip arthroscopy.

The potential benefits of arthroscopy over traditional open surgery include:

  •      • less pain following procedure
  •      • lower risk of complications
  •      • shorter hospital stay, or procedure may be out-patient surgery
  •      • reduced recovery time
  •      • less scarring

After arthroscopic surgery it is important to follow your surgeon’s and physical therapist’s instructions carefully. This will allow you to return to the activities you enjoy more quickly.
